The Cost of Love

Little by little I gave pieces away
Offering my dreams, my heart, my life
Until I was empty and there was nothing
Until I was nothing
Weeping devastation

And I swore to myself
Never, never again!

Now I hear You asking for all the pieces
to lay my self down
to lay my life down
to offer my dreams and my heart
to decrease and become nothing
So that You may increase and be All

But experience is proving stronger than faith
And I am empty of trust
Never is a formidable wall

My heart shrinks in fear at Your request
I still remember and quake at the loss
I cannot
I cannot

But Your scarred hand reaches out
Your eyes weeping compassion
And I know that You know
the cost of love
