Every day it's a battle to the death between Her and Self
Every day it's a war over who will rule Her life
She wrestles Self to the ground, forcing it to yield
She drags Self to the Cross, kicking and screaming the whole way
Some days Self slithers free and stays out of reach, taunting
But this day She is a bit stronger, more determined
As She pins Self to the Cross, It erupts in rage
She takes a fist to the mouth, a knee to the stomach
Fingernails rake Her skin, drawing blood
But She will not give up the fight, no matter the pain, no matter the cost.
Self's eyes are seething hate
Self's mouth screaming obscenities
Each one finding Her soft spot, hitting Her weaknessess
But She ignores it all and perseveres
Finally, She holds the nail in place and raises the hammer
The first nail impales Self's expectations,
The second tears through Self's desires
And the last shreds Self's will
As Self's life seeps out, Its' breathing shallows
She breathes deeper, the air cleaner and freer
She looks up and sees the One She loves
He is the reason for this daily death battle
She is a mess, bruised and bloodied
But She is also triumphant and His eyes shine with pride
He offers His hand and tells Her that She is more beautiful for the struggle
Today because she won the battle, She also wins the reward
Today She is secure in His arms and in His love
Today Self died, but She lives and walks in His Presence
Tomorrow will be another battle to the death
Another war with Self to determine who will rule
But His Presence lingers like light upon Her
She is ready
Bring it!
