Worst Enemy

The guilty party is before me
Usually I would restrain myself
And offer grace
This time I act as judge and executioner
This one surely deserves it

I pick up my stones
and begin to hurl them
Accusations
Criticism
Slander
Until my anger is spent
and sufficient punishment is doled out

When the dust clears
I look at the condemned
lying broken and bloody
and see a familiar face

Only then do I see the victim is me

Then comes the gentle reminder,
"Love your neighbor as yourself"
